Secret To Get On The First Page Of Google

Looks like Google has had a facelift. Seen the new search results page lately? They’ve gotten rid of the colored boxes for the Adwords ads. Bummer. I prefer the old look. Maybe if enough people complain, they’ll change it back.

I have multiple ads for most of my campaigns (sometimes I get lazy and just start off a new campaign with a single ad to see how it performs). But if you’ve read Perry Marshall’s The Definitive Guide to Google Adwords, then you’ll see the importance of having multiple ads.

For example, I have a campaign for a Clickbank product that I have been running for about a month. It doesn’t get very many clicks daily, so for the month of March, I’ve had 102 clicks and 4,313 impressions. The CTR is 2.3%. Not too bad.

I have two ads running with only one word different in the title. Both are shown practically evenly. 40.9% and 50.1%. One ad has got 63 clicks while the other only has 39.

That’s 2.9% and 1.8% CTR, respectively. Obviously, you can guess which ad I’ll keep.

The down side is that I haven’t made any sales for this product yet. I’ll wait a bit longer before it joins the “Adwords graveyard.” So far, it has only got 102 clicks, so I’m going to wait and see.
