If you click on the “Tools” section after you login to your Adwords account, you will see a new tool which is the “Traffic Estimator”. Here’s the URL:
https://adwords.google.com/select/TrafficEstimatorSandbox
The inputs:
This new tool lets you check the expected number of clicks per day for the keyword of your choosing without actually having to create a campaign. You enter a list of keywords or key phrases that you would like to search for. You can also choose the type of currency. It also allows you to set a bid price and the countries you would like to include. The additional options for targeting your audience also lets you set either global, regional or a customized setting.
The outputs:
You get the results listed in a table form with the estimated clicks per day, cost per click, cost per day and the estimated ad position based on your bid price. You can also save the results to a .csv file. Great for compiling research data on keywords!
There is some discussion about the accuracy of the data on various search engine forums. One post from a Google Adwords insider says that the number of clicks they estimated is about 2% of the total impressions. But of course that depends on your adcopy and relevancy.
Check out this article on the new Traffic Estimator.
You can also read about it in this thread on the SearchEngineWatch forum.
