One of the best keyword research tools is Wordtracker. I found that they have recently updated the look of the main site. They have introduced “WordTracker Academy” which contains articles that will help you make the most out of their service.

WordTracker takes some getting used to. But once you’re familiar with how it works, it’s an extremely powerful research tool.

I usually go to Keyword Universe to brainstorm for related keywords when I have a particular keyword in mind. For example, one of my Adwords campaigns is going really well in terms of generating a profit. I wanted to expand my keyword list, so I go to WordTracker. I enter the keyword and the thesaurus tool will generate an entire list of keywords that are related (some more than others).

Once I have a keyword or phrase that has a decent number of searches, I head over to “Comprehensive” search to check out the KEI and the competition.

Then I have two options. I can either build a page based on optimizing for that keyword, or pull up Keywords Analyzer to check out the competition on Adwords. This is a great way to search for hidden gold, so get your shovel out and dig!
