Here’s an easy way to find out how much the search engines like your blog. Here’s what you do:

1. Post an entry with a unique title having at least 3 or 4 words. (I’ll explain more later)

2. Wait a few days.

3. Go to your favourite search engine and type in the title of your post in quotes and see if it’s listed.

For example, today is September 10. My entry on Septemeber 7 is titled “Seth Godin’s Latest Freebies.” When I type this search into Google, I find that it’s already indexed. So it’s taken 3 or 4 days for Google to index my page. I checked in MSN and Yahoo! but it’s not listed yet. The last entry to be indexed by MSN and Yahoo! is this one “Be Careful When Modifying Your Google AdWords Campaigns” which I posted on August 30.

The reason you want to use a longer title is so that it’s something unique that you can find easily in the search engine. My post on September 5 titled “Affiliate Networks” will probably be tough to find since that is a very common phrase on the internet.
