I got a big comment spam attack on one of my blogs the past few days. These usually come from owners of splogs who post a one or two-liner comment and link the URL of their splog to try to get a backlink. Needless to say, I kept my finger hot on the ‘delete’ button.

Google recently made AdSense integration a whole lot easier for blog publishers who use their Blogger service. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a double-edged sword as it can also be misused by sploggers to populate the system with splogs.

Here’s a rant from Mark Cuban who owns IceRocket, a blog search service. Many blog search services and maybe even RSS readers may soon include some sort of filtering for banning splogs. Since a majority of splogs are hosted on Blogger, it’s a good idea if you’re using Blogger to host the blog on your own domain.

Just like spam, we’ll now have to deal with splog.
