Is Yahoo testing out a new form of ads using links? I read this from an article in SearchEngineWatch posted by Gary Price. These ads were spotted on the Yahoo Movies site. For example, if you go to the movie detail page for Chronicles of Narnia (saw it, loved it!), scroll down all the way to the botton of the page and look for the sponsored links.

Instead of regular ads with title, text description and URL, you have just a bunch of text links. Here’s what you’ll see:

If, for example, you click on the link “Plasma tv”, you’ll see this box of ads appearing under the text link box:

Jensense also reports seeing some other new ad formats from Yahoo. For example, if you go to CNN’s Money website (ironically the top story today is about Yahoo missing Wall Street estimates and its shares falling…) you’ll see a box of ads like this one:

Another example of new Yahoo ad formats

Notice that there are text links on the left side and regular ads on the right. The interesting part is that if you click on one of these text links, the ads on the right side will change accordingly. This is something different from the ad formats that Yahoo is offering so far. I think they are doing the right thing to differentiate themselves from Google and potentially MSN.

Spot any more new ad formats? Let me know.
