I haven’t been posting for the past week because I was on vacation. It was a week spent at the lake for a much needed rest - no computers, no email, no internet connection. Everybody needs to take a break from time to time and recharge their batteries. It was also a good time to take stock of where I want my business to be in the next six months.

I’m thinking of selling a couple of domains and websites that I don’t have the time to develop. I’ll also be focusing more on some of the more successful sites/networks and developing them further. One of the domains that I’m considering selling is eproductcover.com which was the graphic design service I started for internet marketers and information publishers. I’m not selling the entire website since it is based on my designs and branded with my name. Since I’m not spending the time anymore for new clients, the website hasn’t been updated for quite some time.

If anyone is thinking of starting an online venture and wants to raise some startup funds, starting a service like this is something that requires very little capital. The required investment is a domain name, hosting, graphics software (such as Photoshop) and time invested to advertise and do the actual work. You don’t even need to pay to advertise. There are many forums where you can find the target audience looking for such services. And trust me, there are many, many people selling infoproducts out there who don’t have the graphics design skills.

If I remember correctly, I recovered all my startup costs and made a nice profit in the first one or two months of operation. But this revenue source is time intensive if you don’t outsource the work and since I’m only doing this part time, I just don’t have the time to grow the business.

I had another objective when I started the business. I noticed that many people who were selling infoproducts on internet marketing did not have very good graphics. So one of the things I did in the beginning was offer to trade my design skills for their product… if they had a product that I was interested in. This actually served as a good avenue for networking and getting to know others in the internet marketing niche.

I’ll post here in a few days if I do end up deciding to let the domain go. It’s currently PR3 and has been registered since June 2004 (nice aged domain).
