Secret To Get On The First Page Of Google
Some lessons learned from the AdSense fiasco:
1. Diversify income sources. Focus on a few main income streams, maybe 3-5 and grow them. Too many income streams may start to become a distraction.
2. Register only .com’s for primary domains. People register a .net, .info, etc. in order to prevent cybersquatting. But if you’re not planning to sell your site for a gazillion bucks, chances are you won’t have to worry too much about it. I was registering a lot of .info’s because they were a bargain and I wasn’t too concerned about natural search rankings as I was driving traffic with PPC.
3. If Google finds that you’re arbitraging, your sites could drop off the main index as well. I’ve noticed this happening with a few of my sites. That’s my hypothesis - that there is a connection between quality score in AdWords/AdSense and your natural search rankings.
4. Traffic first, monetize later. Focus on getting traffic first and think about monetizing later. I was approaching this in the opposite direction.
5. Build authority sites. It’s nice to have a network of related minisites (spreads out risk) but it’s more important to build that 800-pound gorilla site.
