Secret To Get On The First Page Of Google
The most common mistake that I see new bloggers make is trying too hard to make money right off the bat. This is especially true in the “make money online” niche. I was surfing through MyBlogLog looking for a few good blogs on internet marketing. I also like to find out who is reading my blog, so I tend to check out the MBL page. What I found though is that a lot of blogs are just so blatant in their effort at pushing affiliate products or slapping AdSense all over. The minute I see a blog like that, I automatically click the back button. Guys (and gals), wake up! This isn’t 1998 anymore.
If you want to stand out amongst the thousands of internet marketing blogs out there, make sure you offer something useful and unique. In the beginning, it’s better to start off without ads. Just focus on good content. Don’t even worry about monetization until later.
Relax, and make some friends online.
From my experience, AdSense generally doesn’t convert well on internet marketing blogs. Most of your readers already know what AdSense is, so they are unlikely to click on the ads to make you money.
Here are my top 3 tips for new bloggers:
1. Get your own domain. Forget about free hosting at Blogger or Wordpress.com. Get a shared hosting account if you’re starting out and don’t want to (don’t need to) spend a lot of money. I recommend Hostgator.
2. WordPress is the best. It’s easy to customize and you can give your blog a unique look. There are a ton of plugins for WordPress. Whatever you can think of, someone out there probably has a plugin for it. I have been doing a series of posts about my favorite plugins such as sitemap generator, related posts, and shortstat. You can find more plugins here.
3. Visit blogs of others in your niche and make friends. You can get yourself in your friend’s blogroll. This can bring you traffic and also a backlink. Be generous about linking to other blogs. Remember - “Do unto others what you would have them do unto you.”

2Vicki,
I have not used SiteBuildIt before so I cannot comment on it. As for webhosting, I have been using Hostgator for a number of years and have been very pleased with the service and the level of support I receive.
