There are a few good, thoughtful posts there about link building and how it relates to SEO. It’s worth adding these blogs to your RSS feed reader if you’re interested in learning more about this aspect of SEO. There is too much emphasis on getting links to your main site and internal pages from high PR sites to pass on “link juice” but not enough is said about evaluating the true value of a link not just for SEO but how those links can bring valuable traffic that actually converts.
Linking to a new page from an existing page on a different site or sites with high PR definitely works. I’ve seen this myself with my own websites. A completely new site can get indexed faster and can go from a PR0 to PR3 or higher (if you care about PR) in a couple of months. PR and Technorati rank is important for certain things like selling text links. So if that’s the path you choose, this technique can work.
But if you need actual quality traffic to your site that will boost your sales, it’s far better to concentrate of getting links (by exchange or purchase) from true authority sites related to your niche.
By the way, I also like Rand Fiskin’s posts here and here.
Too lazy to learn how to build links yourself? If you’ve got deep pockets, you could hire a link-baiting service to do it for you.
