I decided to play around with a new theme and give the blog a facelift. I chose something blue for the header because it’s my daughter’s favorite color. :)

This is what I like best about WordPress, the way you can easily change the theme while keeping all your content intact. If you’re looking for a new Wordpress theme, you can either download one for free or hire a designer to custom code one for you. I haven’t taken the latter route but I might just do that someday. For now, I know just enough CSS and php to make the minor tweaks so that things show up the way I want them to. If you know Photoshop, that’s definitely a plus too.

To install a new theme, all you have to do is download the theme to your computer. Unzip the files and then ftp them to your wp-content/themes directory. After you’ve done that, go to your WP admin panel and look under the Presentation tab and you should see the new theme listed. Select the theme and install it. That’s it. You may need to make some minor changes like uploading your own header graphics and customize your sidebar. With themes that are widget enabled, manipulating the sidebar is as easy as dragging and dropping items into a list.
