Secret To Get On The First Page Of Google
The blogosphere has been abuzz recently with the actions of Google dropping the PageRank numbers for many A-list blogs. I don’t think that this is limited only to blogs. It seems to be a cut across the board. Across my network of sites, I’ve seen the effects as well. Many of my sites have dropped by one step - PR5’s became PR4’s, PR4’s became PR3’s and so on. It really doesn’t affect the traffic to the sites.
This may be another one of Google’s tactics to try to stem link sellers. If you’re part of a link broker network such as TLA, it might affect you since the value of the links on your sites just went down.
Folks, the PR update is still going on and we’ll have to wait a while for the dust to settle. For instance, Engadget went from PR7 to PR5 and back to PR7 tonight. Problogger went from PR6 to PR4 and back to PR6 again.
How to check for PageRank updates?
There are a number of sites that provide you with free PageRank checkers such as this one. Enter your domain name or that of your competitor’s and you will see the numbers reported for different datacenters. As you can see, the numbers right now are fluctuating which is a sign that an update is still going on.
If you’re like me and have a network of sites, you know that it can become a headache to keep up with checking the stats for all the sites. One of the solutions is to enlist the help of software tools. This can save you a LOT of time and manual work.
What’s a webmaster to do?
Don’t worry too much about your PageRank. If you’re just starting out, focus on getting good links back to your site and putting out great content. In time, the PR will work itself out.
