Let’s have a little fun. This post has nothing to do with marketing or webmastering. Instead, we’re going to build a simple LED flasher circuit for our techno-pumpkin. You can do this a number of ways but this is really simple with just two LEDs, a battery, an IC, a switch and a capacitor.

I found out that the LM3909 has been discontinued. I happen to have this part in my collection. If you happen to find this part, you can get the datasheet for it here. I’ve used the circuit on the right hand side on top of page 4. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be hard to do this with 555 timer circuits or just with a simple transistor.

The capacitor I used is 330 uF and the battery is a 1.5V type N from RadioShack. I’ve also added a switch so that I can turn the thing on and off.

Here is another view of the circuit along with the two red LEDs. The LEDs will flash about once every second.

And here is the final product!

Obviously, it’s the one on the left. The one on the right has a little candle in it.
