stephane.jpgNeed advice about PHP? MySQL? As a webmaster, the more well-versed you are about the technical side of things, the more effective your online enterprise will be. Of course, you can outsource all the technical stuff but it’s still good to know what you’re outsourcing. You can check out Stephane’s blog which is written about making money online but from the webmaster’s perspective.

Content

The content primarily consists of technical tips for webmasters including issues related to web hosting, web design and programming. For example, if you need to install an ad management system, you can read about getting help installing OpenAds. The blog is relatively new, having just started up in August 2007 but Stephane has lots of programming experience so I’m sure he’ll be able to answer all your questions. If you like the geeky stuff about SEO, you’ll enjoy reading up on his post about SEO-friendly URLs.

Design

The blog design is simple and I like that way Stephane has his avatar in the header of the blog. He has also used the same avatar for his MyBlogLog profile which is great for branding and recognition.

Advertising

As with many other blogs about making money, you need to walk the walk, not just talk the talk. I find that AdSense generally doesn’t work well on this type of blog. After all, if your audience are primarily webmasters who are already familiar with AdSense, it’s likely most people are “AdSense-blind” and rarely click on the ads. I would advice trying some other form of advertising like selling private ad space.

There are also some affiliate banners for webhosts. These can work well if coupled with honest reviews about actual experiences of using the particular companies. After all, webmasters are always looking for good, reliable webhosts. Most people will spread out their sites with multiple companies (unless you’re running your own server) in order to spread out the risk.
