he’s too cheap to hire a real person to handle support.
I get tons of internet marketing offers in my email daily and I decided to check one of them out today. It was sent to me from an internet marketer (let’s call him IM #1) that shall remained unnamed. It was recommendation for a product from another internet marketer (who we’ll call IM #2). Obviously, IM #1 is doing a JV deal with IM #2.
So I click to the page and scrolled through the sales letter. Part way through, there’s this photo:

Having read all the glowing testimonials (from all the usual suspects - you’ll know what I mean once you’ve been around IM for a while) about how this product will make me a gazillion bucks, I was going to hit the back button when suddenly a chat window pops up.
It appears that a live person is trying to type a message. It’s like what you get when you’re chatting using Yahoo instant messaging. On the status bar below, I see “Elizabeth is typing a message…”
But I’m like… no way, this cannot be a real person.
Here’s the transcript of the “live” chat:
Elizabeth Says: Hey Wait! If you order now I can offer you the [product name edited out] ebook for FREE! (worth $99.95) That means you can get started for just $77.00! (Normally $197.00) That’s $120 off our original asking price! To take advantage of this one off deal just CLICK HERE
Elizabeth Says: And with our 56 day guarantee you can purchase with confidence, if you do not make money we will refund the full purchase price! That’s how sure we are this can work for you!
Me: you’re not a real person
Elizabeth Says: I am a live virtual agent :)
Elizabeth Says: So do you want to take advantage of this great limited time offer? If so CLICK HERE
Me: first prove to me that you’re a real person.
Let’s see how smart this “virtual” agent is.
Elizabeth Says: I am a live virtual agent :)
Let’s try again. Let’s see if this thing really has any artificial intelligence.
Me: what’s 5 + 3?
Elizabeth Says: You do not need to have any special technical skills in order to make the [product name edited out] work for you. For the one-time fee of $77.00 (Normally $97.00) we can show you how. Would you like to get started?
Yeah, right. No thanks. I don’t like to talk to virtual agents.
It’s bad enough that I have to talk to machines when I call to get tech support for Verizon FIOS.

1Those tactics just reek of a scam. Showing flashy cars, “not one, BUT two INCREDIBLE Ferrari’s”
The sad thing is that this sort of thing probably does work on a lot of people.
Well, my approach is a little bit different:
