Interesting post I read about AzoogleAds settling for a $1 million with the Florida Attorney General over free ringtone offers. If you’re promoting any CPA offers that have the word free in any of the creatives, you should be careful. I wonder if the AG is going after the other CPA networks as well.

According to Shawn Collins who spoke to reps from the Florida AG’s office, the settlement “sets a new standard for the way affiliates market cell phone products.”

But I believe that it’s not restricted to ringtones. There are tons of free stuff offers out there on the CPA networks that are not really free if you read the fine print marked by the little asterisk. Usually, the consumer has to complete certain offers which involve some kind of payment before receiving the “free” product. So it’s best to talk it over with your affiliate manager if you’re thinking of promoting a CPA offer with the word “free” in the creative.
