If you haven’t seen it yet, Microsoft AdCenter has a new keyword research tool that’s free. You do have to have an AdCenter account. It’s called Ad Intelligence and it is licensed from adSage.
(Note: If you need an AdCenter account, you can do a search for adcenter coupon to find how you may be able to get a $50 credit to start you off.)
Be warned, the zip file is 64MB, so it might take a while to download if you don’t have broadband.
The adCenter Add-inBeta is a keyword research and optimization tool, based in Excel and including the Ad Intelligence model, which enables you to:
- Easily and quickly build out or expand keyword lists.
- Effectively plan keyword strategy based relevance, cost history, volume, demographics, geography, and more.
- Forecast monthly and daily keyword impressions and future trends.
The major drawback is that it only works with Excel 2007. But you can download a free 60-day trial version of Excel 2007 to test out this tool. Unfortunately, if you like to use it longer than that, you’ll have to shell out the money to upgrade your Excel.
Screenshots from Ad Intelligence:
Here I entered two keywords and used the Keyword Suggestion feature:

You can also view historical search query counts and predicted counts.

You can also view the monetization of the keyword:
![]()
You can also generate keywords from various verticals:
![]()
I also tried to do some research using the demographics feature:
![]()
I don’t know how accurate this is but you can see from the demographic data that the demographics are heavily skewed towards the male gender for the phrases “affiliate marketing”, “internet marketing” and “make money online”.
The largest group of people searching for “affiliate marketing” are in the 65+ group. Interesting…
“internet marketing” draws a younger crowd with the majority in the 35-50 group and “make money online” is a hit among the 25-35 group.
How are these stats collected? I have no clue. But the data may help you plan your marketing campaign accordingly.
Use this tool in combination with the Google Keyword Tool and Google Trends and you can get at a lot of search trends for free.
OK, I’m off to tinker with Ad Intelligence some more.

1You know, I just joined AdCenter, and saw the 60 day free trial and thought it was for the keyword research add-on for Excel. Now I read your blog and thanks for clearing that up for me. lol

2Steve,
You’re welcome. There are a bunch of other free keyword tools in the AdCenter labs. Check those out too.
