Everybody’s setting goals for the New Year, so why not join in? But seriously, writing down your goals can help you keep yourself accountable. You’ll have something to refer to from time to time to see how close you are from achieving your goals. The process of writing down your goals will also help you crystallize your thoughts and refine your goals.
Here are some of my goals for this blog and in general:
1. Create community. The response from readers in the form of comments has been dismal. I will try to post more quality content and more frequently. But I need readers to give me feedback and start conversations so that we will benefit from the discussion.
According to my Google Analytics data of last year, only 15% of my traffic was returning traffic. That means that I was not able to retain a lot of visitors. A major goal of mine this year is to keep in touch more often with my readers. I have a small subscriber list through this site which I have neglected. It’s time for me to engage those readers and find out more about what they want.
Some benchmarks:
Average time on site: 1 minute 26 seconds.
Average pageviews/visit: 1.55 pages
Traffic sources:
Direct traffic: 18.33%
Referring sites: 48.95%
Search engines: 32.72%
I am also looking for a guest blogger to help me out from time to time. Please use the contact form to let me know if you are interested.
2. Increase traffic. Currently, this blog is getting about 400 visits per day. I would like to at least double this number by the end of the year.
3. Get organized. That includes getting my computer organized, my workspace, accounting, etc. By the start of a new month, I would like to have the previous month’s cash flow analyzed and all incoming revenues and outgoing expenses recorded (at least for tax purposes).
4. Focus. I would like to focus on fewer projects to create maximal impact rather that operating in the mode of testing out the waters to see which streams of income are viable. One of the projects that I will devote more time to is this one.
5. Grow revenues. The total revenue generated directly from this blog last year was around $1500. This is mostly from text link ads and a couple of site reviews that I did. Aside from that, there are indirect revenues that are harder to keep track of as a result of sales from affiliate links of products that I recommend.
This blog serves as an outlet for my thoughts on internet marketing and is not my main source of online income. However, I would like to see this blog’s revenues grow to about 5K this year.
6. Write more reviews. As the name of the blog suggests, one of my aims is to provide reviews of products (could be physical products, software, or even affiliate networks) that will help you become more efficient as a solo entrepreneur. In addition to reviews, I am planning on releasing short topical reports covering specific aspects on online marketing.
I would also like to devote more time to my other blog about blogging which is starting to take off and seeing lots of natural traffic from search engines. I think that more and more people are coming online and looking to blogging as a source of income either to supplement their regular income or as their sole income.
