This is particularly true if you are marketing to folks who are interested in the “make money online” niche. A few years ago, ebooks were the way to go. Many marketers were listing their ebooks on Clickbank and getting armies of affiliates to promote them.
However, the trend is moving away from selling the ebook or physical products up front and offering up free information in exchange for getting someone to subscribe to a list.
The reason?
Just do a search for any “product name” + “torrent” and you will find tons of sites where popular internet marketing ebooks and even software are put up by others for free download. There are even forums where folks exchange information on where you can find these pirated products.
Two recent examples of marketers moving to the “free information” model.
Aaron Wall of SEOBook. He’s gone from selling his ebook to a membership/forum type of product. Right now you can get in for a trial period of a few months but he’s going to charge $99 per month after that.
John Reese’s Income.com. His mantra is give away good stuff for free and people will want to buy your paid stuff later.
So get your creative juices going and think about how you can market your information in different ways other than the traditional ebook format.
