Secret To Get On The First Page Of Google
More AdWords tips as reported by Geordie Caswell who attended SMX West. I guess there are a lot of Google AdWords reps attending this event.
A couple of points that stood out:
1. PR and incoming links don’t affect landing page QS. They are calculated separately.
2. 14 days history and several hundred clicks are required to get an accurate sense of your keyword performance before you decide to change any parameters.
3. Remove “Poor” or deactivated keywords. They’re hinting that this will improve the QS of your ad group.
4. Start with fewer targeted keywords and branch out later. This is against the conventional way most PPC users start new campaigns which is to load up hundreds and even thousands of keywords and later filter out the non-performing ones. This is what I call the “throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks” type of approach. Apparently, if you start with fewer targeted keywords, you’ll get better QS (provided you bid high enough to get a decent CTR) and you can later expand your ad group to include more keywords.
