Since my last post about Entrecard, they have changed the way you collect credits from advertisers. As a result of this change, quite a few blogs have stopped using them. Some even predict its demise. Personally, I think it will be around for a while.

First of all, I see it as a way to gain more exposure for your blog and occasionally you will get some readers who will subscribe to your RSS feed or email list because they like what you have to say.

Sure, they’ll be lots of people who are just surfing to get credits but if I can get a few more readers, extend the reach of my blog, why not? After all, it doesn’t cost me a penny except the real estate to put up the 125×125 widget on my sidebar.

Having said that, the price inflation in terms of the number of credits required to advertise on a particular blog is real. One of the best returns I got for advertising (based on number of clicks per credit spent) was on Joel Comm’s blog. It used to cost something in the range of 12-18 credits which is a real BARGAIN from the number of clicks I was getting to my blog. After the new system was implemented, it now costs 256 credits to advertise there.

I think newcomers to Entrecard will have a tougher time breaking through. Unless you’re a manic dropper, it’ll be hard to really accumulate enough credits to advertise effectively through Entrecard. My other blog MMB started getting a lot more attention from Entrecarders about a month ago and now I have about 1700 credits to burn.

The best way to keep track of the visitors from ads you place is to use an analytics software that can tell you how long a visitor stays on your site based on the referring site. The only problem is that the referrer from ad clicks will show as “entrecard.s3.amazonaws.com” so you can’t tell exactly which site is sending you the traffic if you have multiple ads running on a particular day.

    You are if you're advertising blindly. You get some level of reporting from Entrecard but it really doesn't tell you what you should be looking for. It only tells you the number of clicks as a result of placing your ad on a particular blog. There is a more valuable
