This week, eBay officially launched their in-house affiliate program called eBay Partner Network (real creative name, right). It’s free to join and replaces the affiliate program that they had on CJ. I think CJ links are going to be phased out after May 1st. If you hand coded all the affiliate links into your web pages, then you’ll have to do a lot of work to go through all the pages and manually replace them. Or you could use something like a search and replace tool.

Personally, I think that if you want to make full use of the eBay affiliate program, you should consider a third party tool like BANS which makes life so much easier. The creators of BANS actively update their product and continue to offer free upgrades from time to time.

I just created a new BANS store integrated into my existing site which happens to be built using XSitePro.

For a niche site that isn’t too large, using XSitePro together with BANS is an excellent solution. The former is better for managing the content pages, while the latter lets you build rich, thematically focused pages that further supplement your site. It serves both as a great resource for human visitors and grub for search engine spiders.

I have heard that XSitePro 2.0 is coming soon. I have been using XSitePro for almost 3 years now. I’m excited to see what new features will be included in this major release. For many a niche site, I have used XSitePro as the content management system. However, there is nothing to stop you from combining different platforms such as using XSitePro + WordPress. There is no perfect content management system unless you want to pay to have one developed according to your specifications.

This is my first time hearing of BANS. I just may purchase it! I have one question though:

Can BANS be used for products other than Ebay?

Let’s say I wanted to promote a singe affiliate offer or product and build a site around that one product offer. Can I do that with BANS?

Hi Fred,

BANS is built specifically to make it easy to promote eBay in a particular niche. However, you can customize your pages because you’re able to edit the css files.

If you just want to promote an affiliate offer or build a site around that one product, you might be better off with XSitePro. Take a look at the videos they have on their site. They will give you a better idea of what it’s capable of.

BANS is a godsend!!! Because it’s a good product? Ha, not hardly. No, it’s because BANS, like pretty much EVERY instant online store site out there, is a shady, hell, GREASY company that presents a fantastic opportunity to boost one’s rapport by cautioning people against throwing their money away.

What do I mean? From BANS’ hype filled nonsensical “how much can you make, page (needless to say, their earnings disclaimer is super hard to find)…

$28 x 50 + $5,000 x 60% = $4,400

Leaving the first part of the equation alone, lets look at the second part. $5000 in revenue generated. Hey, that’s doable, right? Well, something BANS fails to really explain, is that it’s $5000 in EBAY revenue (ie, the cut ebay takes).

I won’t bother to go through the math, but here’s EBAY’s take on a $50 sale– $3.06. So, generate the commission in the example, it’s not $5000 in revenue at all, is it? No, it’s 1,633 $50 transactions in one month–a whopping $81,650 in transaction revenue (and make no mistake about it, transaction revenue is EXACYLY what BANS is greasily hinting is making up that $5000 number.

Anyway, I’m glad I heard about this BANS company. I’ll be using it as a warning of the type of company to avoid, in order to build rapport for companies I do promote.

Sincerely, BANS is obviously a very slimy company, and the fact that you’re promoting them for an affiliate check pretty much destroys your credibility, sport.

There’s nothing hidden about the eBay commission structure. Anybody can read it at the EPN site. And NOBODY is giving you any sort of guarantee about the level of revenue you can generate through your site. It depends on a lot of factors - how hard you’re willing to work, your level of experience, etc. The earnings disclaimer is clearly linked to at the bottom of the page.

Having said that, BANS owners can drop in to the forum and see that there ARE people making 4 and 5 figures a month.

So what if I promote them for an “affiliate check”? If I find a product that I have purchased, used and like, I can promote it to my readers if I want to.

Was wondering how do you use BANS with XsitePro?
I have only recently started using BANS and am not too comfortable with it yet but have used XSitePro for around 18 months and love it.
What I would like to do is leave my original XSitePro site and add a BANS targeted site onto it. Is that possible do you know?
Would love to get some feed back either way, have also posted the question just before within BANS as if it is doable it opens up a whole new can of worms to play with.

Michael,

You could create your BANS store like you normally do and then use XSitePro to create an external link to your store. You could do this by setting up your BANS store in a sub-directory. For example, if you use a navigation menu, there is an option for the link to be an external link (including links to other directories that are not built with XSP) rather than linking to another page within your site.
