The answer is yes. Based on a test that I was running for about a month, I have found that given the right offer and knowing your target audience (in my case, male vs. female readers) it can work quite well. Normally, you would have to find offers that are general enough to work for a large segment of the market. For my test, I chose an offer (email submit) that was primarily targeted towards women.
For this test, once the campaigns were set up, I left them pretty much untouched for the entire month.
After finding that it was profitable in AdWords, I extended the campaign to Microsoft AdCenter using the exact same ad copy. Here’s a summary of my findings:
1. Google AdWords advertising was more profitable than AdCenter.
2. The content network clicks converted better than the search network clicks - 10.23% vs. 9.41%.
While AdWords was more profitable for me than AdCenter for this test, it really depends on the niche and you have to test for each campaign that you run. I have found the opposite result for some other niches and have left only the AdCenter campaign running because I just couldn’t make it profitable with AdWords.
The moral of the story here is that if you use PPC, you have to keep testing for yourself. Don’t just rely on what other people are telling you.
By the way, I am no longer running this test campaign as it was tied to a reality TV show and that show has since ended.
