The topic of traffic exchanges always provokes heated debates among people who swear by it and those who have tried it and failed. Having tried TEs a number of years ago, I gave up after spending too much time surfing on them and not seeing the results I wanted. However, the root of the problem wasn’t with the system itself but with how I was using it. I was not using simple splash pages to capture the lead.
Therein lies the problem. Maybe I should state it again.
I wasn’t using splash pages to capture leads.
Recently I “rediscovered” TEs and have started using them again. Sometimes I surf and I supplement that with purchasing credits. That’s the best way to test a TE quickly to see if the traffic will convert for you.
Now when I do surf, I notice that half the time, people are promoting other traffic exchanges in the hopes of building their downlines. A majority of the time, I also see people promoting things like blogs, affiliate sites, products with long salesletters, and other biz opps.
Seriously, folks. Every page has 10-15 seconds to capture the reader’s attention. Do you think they will stop to read your entire sales letter? And if you want to promote other TEs that’s fine but you should also be building your own list rather than someone else’s list. I can understand that if you have a larger downline, you can get credits from those who signed up under you. That may be part of your strategy but it should be a priority for you to build your OWN list first.
Another mistake I frequently see is a page that’s filled with links. I mean tons of links. Your splash page should ideally have only one exit point. It could be one active link or one opt-in form. That’s it! Don’t confuse the visitor by giving them too many options. Remember that your goal is to get them on your list.
Once they’re on your list, you can reach out to them over and over again as long as they’re subscribed.
