While you can get much better conversion numbers in Yahoo Search Marketing (YSM) compared to AdWords, there is one MAJOR thing that I dislike about their system.
They will charge your credit card BEFORE you actually get the actual clicks.
I called a rep from Yahoo to ask them if I could get invoicing instead but they told me that I would have to have an ad spend of at least $10,000 per month for 3 consecutive months before I could apply for invoicing. And that I would have to continue with the minimum spend each month after that.
I’ve had my YSM account for years. Have I ever failed to pay for my ad clicks? Nope. Yet Yahoo obviously doesn’t trust me enough to afford me the luxury of an invoicing arrangement.
Otherwise, they will charge your credit card to maintain at least a balance of 3x daily ad spend in your account. How lame is that? This tells me a few things about Yahoo:
1. They are hard up for cash.
2. They don’t trust that you as the advertiser will pay up.
3. They don’t know how to treat their loyal customers well.
I hope Jerry reads this. Well, he’s probably too busy firing 10% of his employees.
